Tracy Thomas - Shortlisted for Final 3
Award Category ‘Nursing Practice’
The Independent Healthcare Awards
Tracy Thomas, Head of Midwifery at the Private Birth Centre in Northwich has been nominated as a finalist in the Nursing Practice category at the prestigious IHA Awards.
The Laing & Buisson Independent Healthcare Awards exist to highlight the range of achievements within the independent health and care sector and to pay tribute to those teams that have demonstrated excellence in their particular fields.
The IHA 2010 features 15 categories which showcase professional skills, management leadership, excellence and spirit of enterprise across the full range of independent health and social care delivery.
The dynamic and “cross-cutting” award categories seek to encourage participation from across this exciting and diverse sector. The awards are presented at a prestigious gala dinner ceremony at the London Hilton Park Lane on 14 September 2010.
Tracy has been short listed for the Nursing Award. In common with the medical practice award, this category seeks examples of outstanding nursing practice and their effect on the patient experience. This award acknowledges the essential contributions that nurses across all practice settings make to the health care of our society.
Tracy said she was “absolutely thrilled to be nominated” and hopes this recognition will help towards achieving her ultimate goal of making this gold standard model of care, accessible to all-not just for those families that are fortunate to afford private care.

The Private Birth Centre are proud to announce that we are now working with Future Health, a Private Stem Cell Bank.
Future Health was the UK’s first fully accredited cord blood stem cell storage operation. We hold a full unconditional licence from the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) and an ISO9001:2008 quality management certification for our processes and systems, so parents can be assured that the service and facilities meet the highest standards.
The blood within the umbilical cord contains a baby’s own unique stem cells. Stem cells are the building blocks of the blood and immune system and are capable of being used to replace damaged or diseased cells anywhere in the body. Cord blood stem cells are a perfect match for the baby and also carry a significant probability of a match in other family members. Collecting and preserving a sample of cord blood is therefore a one-off opportunity to capture these vital cells so that they can be held as a unique biological insurance which one day might help to save that person’s life if they contract a serious illness or medical condition. Future Health is also the first and only UK private stem cell bank to offer a service to collect and store cord tissue as well as cord blood.
Whilst it is now well-established that cord blood stem cells (Hematopoietic Stem Cells) can be used in the treatment of over 85 different medical conditions of the blood and immune system, the stem cells in cord tissue (Mesenchymal Stem Cells) have even greater potential in the field of regenerative medicine because they can differentiate to form tissues such as bone, cartilage, tendon or muscle.
Tracy Thomas the Director of the Private Birth Centre is working alongside Future Health as their Midwifery Consultant.
