The fundamental driving force behind the creation of our Private Birth Centre is a passionate belief in women and that individualised midwifery care and the provision of excellence are achievable aims.
Our Birth Centre is an independent, community based facility that provides outstanding bespoke maternity services to women who are looking for low tech, midwifery led care. The practice is managed, staffed and run by case loading midwives who have absolute faith in the birth process and who actively encourage natural ways to achieve a gentle, positive birth experience.
Our practice philosophy is based on a commitment to pregnancy and birth as normal life events; we are absolutely committed to recognising and respecting the rights and wishes of the individual woman and her family. Continuity of care and a woman's right of choice is at the very heart of our professional ethos.
The Private Birth Centre has forged excellent working relationships with relevant local health and social care agencies. This ensures that each woman we care for is assured of the best plan of care for her and her baby whatever the circumstances.
The Service User Group
We are passionate about what we do and are fully committed to developing and improving our services. Therefore, we have set up as Service User Group, a body of previous clients who have agreed to meet regularly and give us constructive feedback and their opinion on changes and ideas.
The Service User Group are also looking at new ways to take the company forward, working in partnership with the NHS so that all women have the opportunity to use our services regardless of their personal circumstances.
Meet the Service User Group:
Colin Ashcroft - Chair
Colin and Angela were clients at the Private Birth Centre and had a beautiful baby boy 'James'.
Colin became part of the service user group because "Quite simply, why wouldn't I become part of a user group for work that Angela and I feel so passionately about?"

I originally trained as a biologist and then after practising yoga through my first pregnancy I found Birthlight and baby yoga. My oldest son, Arran, was my guinea pig as I trained to teach baby yoga and we found it helped us both enormously to get through the first few months, me as a scared new parent and him as a precious first born.
My beautiful second Theo was born 3 years later after more pregnancy yoga. When he contracted meningitis at four months old our lives all changed dramatically, but the yoga gave me something to hold on to. During his first year we discovered Yoga for the Special Child, a fantastic therapeutic programme that Theo and I continue to practice. I trained to originally to work with Theo and I am now continuing with the advanced training and work with other special children and babies. Special babies are also very welcome in my baby yoga classes. My third baby, Naomi, is featured practising her yoga in the photo. Yoga brings us all strength, flexibility and peace of mind and spirit no matter what our age or ability. What better start in life?

I have been in the property development business and the care industry for 25 years and have been married to Julie since April 2008. We came to the Private Birth Centre in 2009 and welcomed our first child Joyella into the world with the team. We were so impressed by service given to us from PBC and wanted to spread the word and we thought the Service User Group would be a good way to help the development of the centre.

My name is Melissa Wilson, I'm 41 and the managing director of Macouti ltd. Married to Adam, we had Eden Rose, born 2009 at the birth center via a beautiful hypno water birth. I also have fantastic 23 yr old daughter from a difficult nhs birth, I suffered post traumatic stress disorder after Naomis birth hence the very big gap and urge to find some reassurance that birth can be a positive experience.
Shortly after Edens birth I was delighted to be asked to be part of SUG . I feel very strongly that birth should be as gentle and natural as possible. Experienced competant and compassionate midwives with an excellent support team can make this a reality. I would simply like every baby to have this peaceful arrival! I'm looking forward to helping the Birth Centre achieve their selfless goals.
