Your Midwife in a Doula role
Women choosing our Support in Hospital Package (£1850) you will be supported by a qualified Midwife who is taking on a Doula role in the hospital of your choice.
Your Birth Doula attends you throughout your labour and birth; she gives encouragement and reassurance as well as attending to your practical needs. Your doula is not there to replace your partner (unless that is your wish), she is there to support you both as a couple and work in partnership with your NHS Midwife.
As your advocate your Midwife working in this Doula role will be involved in planning your care and giving you information so that you can make informed choices that are right for you and your baby. In this important role, your Doula will be there to keep birth normal, ensure your wishes are met and to ensure you accept medical intervention only at the point of need.
Research suggests that having a Doula present at birth can have a huge impact on outcomes, some of the benefits include:
• Reduced need for pain relief
• Increased satisfaction with childbirth
• Fewer complications/interventions
• Reduced labour time
• Lower caesarean section rates
• Higher success rates with breastfeeding
• Reduction in epidurals
• Reduction in forcep deliveries
